  1. Every day, businesses decide to upgrade their communications technology.  Many times, upgrading with your current vendor to the most recently upgraded form of your existing infrastructure is the easiest and most budget friendly solution.  But you shouldn't assume that it is the least expensive or most comprehensive solution - don’t make any decisions until you have explored all of your options!

    Check out this checklist,

  2. There are over 230 million small and medium businesses in the U.S. who export globally - even more have multiple location offices. In today's economy, the vast majority of these companies do not have the resources to take business trips, regardless of whether travel is deemed “necessary.” For them, a technological solution is the only affordable answer.

However, the video conferencing available to small and medium businesses in the past has been more painful than productive.

  3. Sometimes it is hard to remember that companies like ours are made up of people – not just the technicians who repair and maintain things, or the sales teams who check to see if you need the latest technology – but people who live, raise their families and play in the same communities as our customers.  While our ambitions push us to reach the pinnacle of our respective professions, many amongst us summon that same drive and determination to push us to be our best for the benefit of our communities as well.

  4. “Doing the right thing” is not always easy – especially when making a different choice seems so profitable. But making the right choices when faced with difficult decisions is the mark of character and integrity. In today’s society, the Golden Rule and treating others the way we would like to be treated sometimes seems more “exception” than “rule”. It is refreshing to hear of stories where individuals exceed the expectations of others – and even more so when in reference to one of our valued team members, Ellen Wood.

  5. As the Architects of TelefficiencyTM, we have established our role as true communications advisors in the industry.  In that spirit, we have collaborated across our brand to present this series - A step-by-step guide to help you avoid pitfalls and make sure that what you receive is EXACTLY what you need – not what the vendor wanted to sell.

Part 1: Finding the Right Communications Partner

These days, you can do a Google search (or even open the Yellow Pages if you can find one) and find lists of local vendors, national companies, and international conglomerates, all ready to sell you a Communications Platform (CP) and the phones to hook up to it.

  6. If your organization is employing summer interns, be sure your interns are having a great experience.  Get them plugged into Intern to Earn - a program that connects and engages interns in the Greater Louisville region!  Intern to Earn offers summer engagement opportunities that allow interns to meet each other and connect with community leaders through social and professional events.

So get your interns involved in the next Intern to Earn events:

Intern To Earn/Friend of Lou Bats Game

  7. Last Thursday, U.S. Voice & Data was thrilled to sponsor the GLI “Intern to Earn” kickoff - a summer program in Louisville for college students.  USV&D has offered summer internships at all three of our offices over the past few years (special shout out to Liangsha, our intern this year!) and it is exciting to be a part of such a fantastic program as the events sponsor for 2011.

The “Intern to Earn” program helps college students across the globe connect with local Louisville area businesses to intern for the summer.

  8. Chief Information Officers and other IT managers have to deal with two worlds – not because they want to, but because they have to.

First, there is the world of the datacenter. Its servers and other hardware components, and the business applications that run on them, are the backbone of the organization. They turn the data that companies generate and collect the information they need to understand and operate the business.

Then, there is the world of telephony. Here, the voice application ensures that the people whose performance determines how well the organization does, how effectively it competes, and whether it succeeds or fails, communicate with one another to ensure that information is understood and acted on.
